Small Moment – Baking Cookies with Grandma

Old Woman Smiling while cleaning her hands

Hello! I’m currently a sophomore at Lincoln Lutheran and am posting this video for my video editing class. For the class we had to make a small 2-3 minute video capturing a small moment in our life. I chose baking with my grandma. I chose this direction because I think baking with your grandma (or any relative) is a really personal and intimate thing. It’s a small moment between you and them.

I’m proudest of the beginning parts of the video when the actions are on beat and the middle/ending section where she is almost done combining everything and I get a lot of good shot/reverse shots and close-ups. The ending was the most challenging because I was running out of music and still had a lot of video left that I wanted to use. Because I was running out of time I had to cut some clips out and quicken the pace. Because of this, I had to have putting the cookies in and taking them out right next to each other, which was pretty hard to make look good.

If I could do the project over again I would slow things down a bit and make sure my camera was always steady (I couldn’t use some shots because they were shaky). I would also maybe want to get a third person so I could be in the video with my grandma, instead of just her and me observing. I would spend more time on the preparation and wait while the cookies were baking because it’s a bit rushed in the beginning and end.

I have just started my website and am so excited to start personalizing it. I am a middle schooler at Lincoln Lutheran and I enjoy playing sports, playing the saxaphone, and reading. I believe in God, my Lord and Saviour and really hope you do too!
